There are many thoughts in my mind but for now the main problem I wish to state here is that Sept 11, 2001 brought many sad memories to many families around the world. For me Sept 11, 2005 was the day when my daughter's Indonesian maid ran away. It was a Sunday morning. It took us all by surprise as there was no indication at all from the maid on her intention. Just the previous night there was a lantern festival party where many families attended including their maids. My daughter's maid was also enjoying herself and talking with the other maids. However she did not mention to any of them of her intention.

After she ran off, my daughter asked her neighbours and they inquired from their maids. Slowly we received some information. Apparently my daughter's maid had the intention of running away and was asking the other maids to join her. She claimed that working elsewhere she can earn more. We suspect that someone must have enticed her promising her a more rosy future and she finally fell for it.

When my daughter made a police report, the comment from the police is that most maids ran away from employers who treated them very well! We treated her very well, gave abundant food until she put on weight, took her on holidays and bought clothes for her. I just cannot comprehend what transpired in her mind. What more does she expect from us. My daughter was already thinking of raising her salary before her 2 year contract and was prepared to increase further when the contract is renewed.

Well I guess we never know why she ran away. Our only prayer is that she is safe wherever she may be.
